Why Starbucks Is Giving Away Free Coffee

Starbucks is giving away this freebie offer to wake up Super Bowl fans after a late night of watching and/or partying.

According to a survey by UKG , the Monday after the Super Bowl has become one of the most popular “sick days” of the year. A whopping 22.6 million Americans are expected to call in sick today or take the day off of work—up from 16.1 million last year.

In fact, 43% of Americans believe today should be a national holiday.

For those who need to show up and power through the workday, Starbucks is hoping to be the coffee chain of choice to supply some much-needed energy.

“No matter who wins Sunday, we can all win Monday,” Starbucks said in a statement about its promotion.
